Perception Check: Where Have You Been 2.0 – A Return to the Table

Back in April 2024, I published Perception Check: Where Have You Been? to talk about where life had taken me and why things had gone quiet at The Old Bard’s Den.

That was April 5th, 2024. And while things didn’t exactly bounce back overnight, I’ve been slowly finding my way through the fog.

Now?
It’s time to roll the dice again.

Over the coming days and weeks, I’ll be releasing new sessions, new stories, and new content across both solo and group campaigns. I’ve got a lot in the queue, and it feels really good to be back at the table.

⚠️ Fair warning—there’s quite a bit here. If you’ve been following The Old Bard’s journey, this is your chance to catch up and see what’s ahead.

Here’s what’s coming soon:

Society of the Green Feather

Let’s kick things off with a return to one of my favorite weekly gatherings—Society of the Green Feather.

This long-running campaign is orchestrated by none other than my trusted co-hort and partner in adventuring mischief, Eric Shupps, better known in the tech world as The SharePoint Cowboy. Eric’s a brilliant storyteller and one of the main reasons I went from “casually interested in D&D” to fully immersed in the game.

A few years ago, I made the decision to stop just admiring the hobby from the sidelines and actually learn and play Dungeons & Dragons. That pivotal step brought me into Eric’s game, and honestly, it changed everything. You can read more about that journey in a post I wrote titled My Curriculum Romance—a reflection on how a structured, story-driven campaign helped me fall headfirst into the deep end of TTRPGs.

Our sessions with the Society of the Green Feather are dynamic, often hilarious, always dramatic sessions filled with rich character moments and dangerous encounters.

And here’s the best part: I’ll be posting videos of our sessions soon over on The Old Bard’s Den YouTube channel!

So whether you’re a TTRPG veteran or someone just dipping your toe into the world of role-playing games, these sessions will be a fun and immersive ride you won’t want to miss.

Thornwood’s Shadow: D&D Solo Game 2 – Session 2

It’s finally time to return to Thornwood’s Shadow, my second solo D&D 5E campaign—and yes, I know it’s been a while since Session 1 dropped. In fact, it’s been almost a year. But I promise, there’s more on the way—and I’ll talk a little about that in the upcoming video.

Session 1 marked an exciting expansion of my solo storytelling tools. I introduced a form-fillable version of the Mythic Game Master Emulator Adventure Journal and Adventure Lists, designed to help you stay organized during your solo games. You can download it for free from my Patreon right here:

In the story so far, Roland has been traveling south after hearing rumors of a settlement called Overstone. We’ve updated our Adventure Journal and List accordingly, and based on his current path, he’s expected to travel another five days before encountering the next settlement. What he’ll find there—and what secrets the journey will reveal—remains to be seen.

Blade Runner RPG – Solo Game 1: Anamnesis

Welcome to the neon-drenched dystopia of Los Angeles, 2037.

Anamnesis is the first chapter in my solo campaign for Blade Runner: The Roleplaying Game, a journey that explores memory, morality, and manipulation through the eyes of Clayton Brant, a seasoned Blade Runner tangled in webs of conspiracy and identity.

This is more than just a procedural investigation—it’s a cinematic solo experience where every decision ripples outward, revealing new layers of existential conflict and urban decay. Clayton must navigate fractured relationships, the blurry line between human and replicant, and a growing mystery that may shake the very foundations of the LAPD and Wallace Corporation.

To set the stage, I’ve created an introductory video that lays the groundwork for the tone and direction of the story. If you haven’t already, I invite you to check it out here:

Expect moody lighting, slow-burning tension, and the haunting pulse of Vangelis-inspired synths guiding the narrative forward. This series is built using the official Blade Runner RPG mechanics alongside some solo roleplay tools to bring the city to life—all told through the lens of one character caught between duty and truth.

Whether you’re a fan of noir storytelling, the Blade Runner franchise, or just want to see what solo cyberpunk play looks like, Anamnesis invites you to light a cigarette, stare out into the acid rain, and ask yourself:

“Have you ever retired a human by mistake?”

ALIEN RPG – Solo Game 1: Havoc Dawn

Cold space. Warm blood. Terrors you can’t outrun.

My first dive into the terrifying world of the ALIEN Roleplaying Game brings isolation, malfunctioning tech, and creeping dread aboard a drifting emergency vessel. Havoc Dawn is a cinematic solo experience where survival isn’t guaranteed—and trust is a luxury no one can afford.

Using solo tools like Mythic and narrative journaling, I’m exploring the full tension of ALIEN’s stress mechanics, broken systems, and… things lurking in the shadows.

Solo roleplaying games books Alien

That’s a LOT! But wait! There’s more!

And of course, there’s more on the way.

Each of these stories will include blog recaps and video sessions. You’ll find them here and on The Old Bard’s Den YouTube channel.

If you haven’t subscribed yet—now’s the time.

I’ll also be sharing photos and other moments over on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, so keep an eye out for those posts too.

The Book Catalog

Just a quick update here—I’m a bit behind on getting the book catalog fully updated on the site. It’s currently a work in progress, but I expect to have everything caught up and organized within the next few days. Once that’s wrapped up, I’ll share another update—most likely next Thursday—so stay tuned.

In Closing

Thanks for sticking with me through the long gap in updates. I know it’s been a while, but there’s a reason: I’ve been hard at work re-launching Other Worlds Than These, my creative brand that brings together everything music and gaming under one roof.
